Not all
child victims will demonstrate emotional signs of having been
sexually abused. However, some of the following warning signs give clear indication that a child has suffered abuse and is unable to ask for help.
- Unexplained sadness and crying
- Depressed mood
- Extreme mood swings from depressed to manic
- Fear of certain people or situations
- Difficulty trusting others
- Fear of adults
- Fear of being alone
- Anxiety
- Unexplained panic
- Intense anger and hostility or explosive rage
- Self-hatred
- Guilt and shame
- Conflicts with family
- Phobias such as fear of doctors, dentists, or sleeping with someone
- Noticable loss of self-esteem and self-confidence
- Feelings of hopelessness resulting in thoughts of suicide
